TREND ESTIMATES

• Total job vacancies in February 2011 were 195,000, an increase of 3.6% from November 2010.
• The number of job vacancies in the private sector was 176,700 in February 2011, an increase of 3.6% from November 2010.
• The number of job vacancies in the public sector was 18,300 in February 2011, an increase of 3.6% from November 2010.

IMPACT OF NATURAL DISASTERS

Due to the temporary suspension of data collection activities in a number of places declared official disaster areas, the Job Vacancies Survey response rate for Queensland is somewhat lower than usual. A response of 87% was achieved for Queensland, compared with a normal response of 95% or more. The February 2011 job vacancy estimates for Queensland are therefore of a slightly lower quality than normally released by the ABS. Estimates for other states have not been impacted and the impact on industry estimates for Australia is not significant.
